I ran across a blog on content marketing the other day that I loved – Successful Content Marketers Do These 5 Things Differently. The list includes things like exploring new content formats to reach people the way they prefer to consume information; taking responsibility for the success of a content marketing strategy; viewing content as part of an overall marketing strategy; and having no rule book. In other words, a successful content marketer will not be afraid to try new things.

But the No. 1 thing that successful content marketers do differently, according to the author, is “respect content.” He writes:

They are extremely selective about content. Before content is pushed out, they thoroughly evaluate the potential for it to generate interest, provide an actionable solution, trigger user engagement and go viral. That respect ensures a particular brand is only associated with high-quality content that adds value to the lives of its target audience at some level or other.

I’m on-board. In all the work I have done both before 3 Aspens Media and now, I have been an advocate for strong content. That’s why my focus is on content strategy, a key part of an overall content marketing plan.

There is so much content out there these days that the only way a business can stand out is to plan for and provide high-quality, effective content in the ways customers want to consume it. It can be a tall order. And it certainly takes more work. But I believe quality content can pay off in big ways for business.
